Here at #AgrichatUK we like a challenge. So we’re going to ring the changes this week. Rather than have our usual 8 main questions on a topic suggested by one of our #AgrichatUK users, we’re joining forces with the Future of Farming Review group for a collective, real-time Q&A. We’ll be asking 10 main questions aimed at new starters in farming, at would-be new starters and at those who’ve been there and got the T-shirt.
The Future of Farming Review is a joint industry/government group, set up to explore and make recommendations about the barriers to entry into agriculture. It’s a cross-industry group and has widespread support from farming groups, the trade press and those involved in agricultural education and skills. Full details are here if you want to read more ahead of Thursday’s session. The group’s remit covers England in the main but the group is keen to hear about best practice and experiences from Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and elsewhere too. One of the ways the group is engaging with young farmers and new entrants is by running an online survey. And yes, there’s a prize on offer, courtesy of the CLA and the trade press. If you have a minute (of course you do!), please report your experiences as a young farmer or new entrant.
There’s also a more wide-ranging Call for Views from professionals, representative bodies and other organisations who would like to inform the final report and recommendations of the review.
So whatever your age, and whatever your ambitions as far as farming goes, please join us this Thursday 8-10pm. It’s gonna be a good one!
